# Throttle, reverse thrust and brakes > How SkyYoke's throttle lever works in Infinite Flight, including the red zone that gives reverse thrust above 40 kt and wheel brakes below, and the auto-thrust tag. The throttle lever on the right of the cockpit screen controls engine thrust. Its bottom section, the **red zone**, does two jobs depending on your speed. ![The throttle lever with the red reverse and brake zone at the bottom](https://ifkits.com/wiki/img/throttle-lever.png) ## Forward thrust Drag the lever up for more thrust and down to idle. It stays where you leave it. Haptic ticks mark idle. > **Free version** Without Pro the lever stops at 85% thrust. Keep pushing for three seconds and SkyYoke shows **Subscribe to unlock full thrust**. See [Free and Pro](https://ifkits.com/wiki/free-and-pro/). ## The red zone Pull the lever below idle into the red zone. What it does depends on where the aircraft is: | Situation | Red zone acts as | | --- | --- | | On the ground, 40 kt or faster | **Reverse thrust**: the deeper you pull, the more reverse | | On the ground, below 40 kt | **Wheel brakes**: the deeper you pull, the harder it brakes; the engines stay at idle and the lever shows **BRAKE %** | | In the air | Blocked. Reverse in the air would damage the aircraft, so SkyYoke holds idle and shows a red warning. | So a typical landing is: touch down, pull into the red zone for reverse, and as you slow through 40 kt the same pull smoothly becomes braking. ![Braking mode below 40 kt](https://ifkits.com/wiki/img/throttle-braking.png) Reverse needs the **Reverse Thrust** button bound in the [Setup Guide](https://ifkits.com/wiki/bind-axes/). If the brakes stay on at low speed, see [Troubleshooting](https://ifkits.com/wiki/troubleshooting/#the-wheel-brakes-stay-on-at-low-speed). ## Auto-thrust When [managed speed](https://ifkits.com/wiki/managed-modes/) is active, SkyYoke's own auto-thrust moves the lever for you and shows an **A/THR** tag on it. Tap the tag to disconnect auto-thrust; a short **Auto thrust off** banner confirms it. Auto-thrust pulls back to idle on touchdown. ## When the lever locks at idle While the [Violation Avoidance System](https://ifkits.com/wiki/violation-avoidance-system/) is protecting a descent, the lever shows **VAS IDLE** and cannot be moved until the protection ends or you turn it off. ## Reversed throttle If pushing the lever to the top gives idle in Infinite Flight, turn on **Settings → Throttle → Reverse throttle direction**.
