Flying faster than 250 knots below 10,000 ft is a common reason for an Infinite Flight violation. The **Violation Avoidance System (VAS)** stops it from happening [Pro] [Infinite Flight] [Airbus] [Boeing]. ![The Violation Avoidance panel](https://ifkits.com/wiki/img/vas-panel.png) ## With the autopilot on VAS engages by itself below 12,000 ft when the autopilot is on: - It caps the autopilot speed at **240 kt**, a safe margin under the limit, and keeps your chosen speed armed for later. You can change the armed speed with the SPD control in the [autopilot panel](https://ifkits.com/wiki/autopilot/) while VAS is active. - If a descent runs over the limit, it turns the auto-throttle off and locks the throttle at idle (**VAS IDLE** on the lever). It levels off to bleed speed, then descends as fast as it can while staying under 250 kt. - At your target altitude it applies the armed speed, restores the auto-throttle and unlocks the throttle. You hear "Speed limit, two forty" and "Speed, leveling off" as it works. ## With the autopilot off Turn on **Activate when autopilot is off** in the panel, or **Settings → VAS when autopilot is off**, to protect hand-flying too: 1. Descending between 12,000 and 10,000 ft, VAS predicts when you will cross 10,000 ft. 2. If you will cross in under 20 seconds at more than 250 kt, it warns **"Speed, approaching ten thousand"**. 3. Under 8 seconds, it takes the controls: idle thrust, flight spoilers and a level-off within 6 seconds. 4. Already below 10,000 ft and above 250 kt, it takes over the same way and pitches up to about 10°, trading speed for altitude. 5. When it hands back, it stows the spoilers, sets the autopilot to 240 kt (level after a descent, climbing 500 ft/min after an overspeed) and says **"You have control now"**. ## Status The cockpit tile and the panel show what VAS is doing: | Status | Meaning | | --- | --- | | Off | Switched off | | Standby | On, but not needed yet | | Armed | Approaching the protected band | | Protecting · Speed | Holding the autopilot at 240 kt | | Protecting · Leveling off | Bleeding speed in level flight | | Protecting · Descending | Descending as fast as stays under 250 kt | | Warning · Approaching 10,000 ft | Hand-flying warning before the crossing | | Protecting · Manual takeover | VAS has the controls | ## Requirements - SkyYoke Pro. Free users see the switch off; tapping it opens the Pro options. - An Airbus or Boeing aircraft. Other aircraft are not protected and the panel says so. > **VAS is a simulator aid. On multiplayer servers, always follow Infinite Flight ATC instructions first.**
