Callouts and warnings

SkyYoke's spoken V1, Rotate and V2 callouts, TCAS traffic alerts, windshear warning, GPWS terrain alerts and takeoff configuration reminders for Infinite Flight.

SkyYoke speaks the callouts a real flight deck would give you, and shows a banner for each. You can turn each one on or off in Settings → Safety & feedback. They play through the iPhone speaker even when the ringer switch is silent.

Takeoff callouts: V1, Rotate, V2#

During the takeoff roll SkyYoke calls "V1", "Rotate" and "V2" as you pass each speed. The speeds come from the performance calculator, the TO/GA sheet or your own manual entry.

TCAS traffic alerts#

SkyYoke watches the other aircraft around you and follows TCAS II logic:

AlertYou hearMeaning
Traffic advisory"Traffic, traffic"An aircraft is getting close; look for it
Resolution advisory"Climb, climb", "Descend, descend", "Level off, level off", "Monitor vertical speed" and othersFly the vertical speed shown to avoid it
Stronger advisory"Increase climb", "Climb, climb NOW"The conflict is getting worse or reversing
All clear"Clear of conflict"Return to your clearance

On the 777-style PFD the resolution advisory is drawn as red and green bands on the vertical speed scale.

Windshear warning#

Modelled on the Airbus reactive windshear system. Between takeoff and 1,300 ft, and from 1,300 ft down to 50 ft on approach, SkyYoke watches for a sudden loss of headwind. If it finds one, it says "Windshear, windshear, windshear" and shows a red banner. The real response is full TOGA thrust and following the flight director until clear.

GPWS terrain alerts#

The ground proximity warning system covers modes 1 to 5:

AlertWarns about
"Sink rate", "Pull up"Descending too fast close to the ground
"Terrain, terrain", "Pull up"Closing on rising terrain too fast
"Don't sink"Losing altitude just after takeoff or a go-around
"Too low, gear", "Too low, flaps", "Too low, terrain"Close to the ground without landing gear or flaps set
"Glideslope"Below the glideslope on an ILS approach (softer volume)

A red PULL UP or amber flag also shows on the PFD.

Real Airbus sounds Airbus#

In Airbus aircraft, TCAS, GPWS and windshear alerts use recordings of the real Airbus voices instead of a synthesised voice.

Takeoff configuration reminder#

During a managed climb, SkyYoke reminds you to clean up with GEAR UP, FLAPS — RETRACT or GEAR UP · FLAPS RETRACT if the gear or flaps are still out.

Speed limit callouts#

The Violation Avoidance System says "Speed limit, two forty", "Speed, leveling off" and "Speed, approaching ten thousand" as it works.

The voice#

Callouts use the best English voice installed on your iPhone. For a more natural voice, download a Premium English voice in the iPhone's Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → English. SkyYoke picks it up automatically.

Note

All callouts are simulator aids, not real-world safety equipment.
